Competition and consumer policy: review of the balance of competences
Seeks evidence on the balance of competencies between the UK and EU relating to competition and consumer protection policy.
The government is carrying out a review of the balance of competences between the UK and the EU. The review will provide an analysis of what the EU does and how it affects the UK. The Review of the balance of competencies detailed guide provides full details of the review programme.
The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is leading on the report on competition and consumer protection in the 3rd semester of the review.
The competition policy part of the review considers rules governing competition between suppliers. It also covers rules on state aid, a subset of competition rules to prevent market distortions as a result of government support.
The consumer policy part of the review will examine protections for consumers when purchasing a product or service.
