The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017
These Regulations implement, as respects Great Britain, some of the provisions of Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom (OJ No L13,17.1.2014, p1) laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers from exposure to ionising radiation. The Directive repeals Directives 89/618/Euratom, 90/641/Euratom, 96/26/Euratom, 97/43/Euratom and 20013/122/Euratom.

Enabling power
The Secretary of State, being the Minister designatedfor the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972in relation to safety measures in regard to radioactive substances and the emission of ionising radiation, in exercise of the powers conferred by that section and by section 56 of the Finance Act 1973, makes the following Regulations. Regulation 4 and Schedule 1 (the Licensing Authority) are made with the consent of the Treasury.
