These Regulations transpose Directive 2014/41/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 3rd April 2014 regarding the European Investigation Order in criminal matters (“the Directive”) (OJ No L 130, 1.5.2014, p.1).

The Secretary of State, being a Minister designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972in relation to criminal justice, makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by that section and by section 10(3) of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016.
