Seeks views on increasing the speed limit for military armoured tracked vehicles on public roads from 20 to 40 mph.
Last fetched 03 May 2026 · gov.uk
Detail
Consultation inviting views on increasing the speed limit, from 20 to 40 mph, for military armoured vehicles (Tracked) (AVT) on public roads in England and Wales. AVTs include tanks and armoured personnel carriers.
The reasons for the speed increase are:
- the current speed limit prevents adequate training of AVT crews for operational purposes
- road safety issues to do with slow moving vehicles
- the higher costs associated with the 20 mph limit
We would particularly welcome any evidence you can provide in support of your views.
