NHS Pension Scheme: introducing a scheme administration levy
Seeks views on introducing an administration levy that employers who participate in the NHS Pension Scheme will be obliged to pay.
The Department of Health is consulting on introducing a levy to cover the cost of administering the NHS Pension Scheme from 1 April 2017. The levy would be payable by all employers who take part in the scheme. The consultation document presents the levy proposal and draft legislation.
Following the 2016 Spending Review, the department considers that it is no longer appropriate to continue central funding of the NHS Pension Scheme administration service provided by the NHS Business Services Authority. Instead, participating employers should meet the cost of this service as the scheme is provided for the benefit of their staff.
