Last fetched 03 May 2026 · gov.uk
Detail
The proposed plans are to:
- allow parity for the passenger shipping industry
- help ensure that UK citizens have access to the same levels of compensation when travelling between 2 different EU member states
- increase the limits of liabilities for death or personal injuries to passengers being carried by sea
- require carriers to have compulsory insurance
- provides claimants with the right of taking direct action against the insurers
- greater domestic passenger services
The plans provide an improved compensation framework in the event, while on a sea journey, of:
- passenger death or personal injury
- luggage loss or damage
