Detail

Under EU legislation, regional aid may be granted to undertakings, typically businesses, within Assisted Areas. The government is currently reviewing the Assisted Areas Order that came into force in 2007.

The government is consulting on the 2014 to 2020 Assisted Areas in 2 stages:

  • stage 1: in August and September 2013 we are consulting on common principles for drawing the 2014 to 2020 Assisted Areas Map to gather local feedback about potential economic opportunities where regional aid could be used to support disadvantaged economies
  • stage 2: we will publish a draft Assisted Areas Map for consultation in the winter of 2013 to 2014

Subject to European Commission agreement, the 2014 to 2020 Map is expected to come into effect on 1 July 2014.

See the current map of Assisted Areas in Great Britain 2007 to 2013.
