Language requirements for public sector workers
The government is seeking comments on the draft code of practice and on how part 7 of the Immigration Bill will affect public bodies and others.

Detail
The government is committed to passing legislation to ensure that every public sector worker operating in a customer facing role must speak fluent English. We are carrying this out in the Immigration Bill, which is currently before Parliament. The draft code of practice is intended to support public authorities to comply with this new legal duty, without creating a significant burden or more red tape.
We welcome your views and invite you to submit evidence on the questions raised in the consultation paper.
