These Regulations revoke and replace the European Communities (Recognition of Professional Qualifications) Regulations 2007 (“the 2007 Regulations”). The 2007 Regulations implemented in part Council Directive 2005/36/EC (“the principal Directive”) on the recognition of professional qualifications as last amended by Directive 2013/55/EU amending Directive 2005/36/EU on the recognition of professional qualifications and Regulation (EU) No 1024/2012 on administrative cooperation through the Internal Market Information System (“the IMI Regulation”) (“the Directive”). The principal Directive replaced the previous Council Directives 89/48/EEC, 92/51/EC and 99/42/EC on the mutual recognition of professional qualifications, as well as the Directives laying down minimum standards of training in specific professions, namely the professions of doctor, nurse, dental practitioner, veterinary surgeon, midwife, pharmacist and architect (“the sectoral professions”).
