Unemployment by Constituency, July 2013
This paper contains labour market figures for parliamentary constituencies, as well as a summary of the latest national and regional statistics.
• The number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance decreased by 21,200 between May and June 2013, to 1.48 million people aged 18 or over, the lowest level since March 2011.
• The ILO measure of unemployment was 2.51 million people in March-May 2013, down 57,000 from the previous quarter and down 72,000 from the previous year. The unemployment rate was 7.8%.
• The number of people in employment was 29.71 million in March-May 2013, up 16,000 from the previous quarter and up 336,000 on the previous year. The employment rate (the proportion of the population aged 16-64 in work) was 71.4%.
• The number of economically inactive people aged 16-64 was 9.04 million in March-May 2013, up 87,000 compared to the last quarter but down 144,000 compared to the previous year.
