Speaker’s Conference on Parliamentary representation

The Speaker’s Conference on Parliamentary representation was established at the end of 2008 ‘to consider and make recommendations for rectifying the disparity between the representation of women and ethnic minorities in the House of Commons and their representation in the UK population at large; and to consider such other matters as might, by agreement, be referred to for consideration.’ The Conference published its final report in January 2010. This Note provides a summary of the Conference’s main recommendations and developments since the publication of the report.
