Provision of local healthcare in the East Midlands
At 9:30 am on Tuesday 30 April 2019 there will be a Westminster Hall debate regarding the provision of local healthcare in the East Midlands led by Karen Lee MP. This debate will last for 90 minutes.
The East Midlands region covers the following Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs)/Integrated Care Systems (ICSs):
- Derbyshire STP
- Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland STP
- Lincolnshire STP
- Northamptonshire STP
- Nottinghamshire ICS
NHS Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships (STPs) were established in 2016 to bring local health and care leaders together to plan around the long-term needs of local communities. STPs are made up of NHS commissioning organisations (clinical commissioning groups - CCGs), and NHS providers, including NHS trusts and foundation trusts and primary care services, as well as local authorities and others. Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) are developing from STPs, as a new type of even closer collaboration. In an ICS, NHS organisations, in partnership with local councils and others, take collective responsibility for managing resources, delivering NHS standards, and improving the health of the population they serve. The plan is for all STP areas to eventually develop into an ICS by April 2021.

There are 15 NHS trusts/foundations trusts in the region. A number of NHS organisations also operate across the whole of the East Midlands region, including:
- NHS England and NHS Improvement Midlands and East of England
- East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust
- Health Education England (HEE) East Midlands. HEE East Midlands is responsible for the management and coordination of the delivery and funding of the postgraduate education for doctors and dentists in the region.
- East Midlands Clinical Senate. The East Midlands Clinical Senate is one of 12 clinical senates across the country which have been established to be a source of independent, strategic advice and guidance to commissioners, STPs, ICSs and others.
- East Midlands Cancer Network (EMCN). EMCN is a collaboration of health, social care and third sector organisations established in 2017 with the objective of improving outcomes for cancer patients in the region.
