Product Regulation and Metrology Bill [HL]: progress of the bill
The Product Regulation and Metrology Bill [HL] is scheduled to have its report stage in the House of Commons on 4 June 2025.
The Product Regulation and Metrology Bill [HL] makes provision about the marketing and use of products in the UK and about the units of measurement and the quantities in which goods are marketed in the UK (legal metrology). It is an enabling bill: it confers powers to government ministers to develop the details of the legislation at a later date. If enacted, the bill will provide new delegated powers to ministers to set and update product safety and metrology rules, as well as to enable the UK to choose whether to recognise EU product requirements.
The bill had its second reading in the House of Commons on 1 April 2025. A library briefing was published for the debate.
The bill was considered in committee over three sittings between 13 and 15 May 2025. Report stage is scheduled for 4 June 2025. A library briefing, summarising what happened in committee, will be published ahead of the debate. It will be available from this page.
