Inflation international comparisons: Economic indicators
Inflation measures the change in prices over time. Find the latest data on inflation in the UK, the Eurozone, and selected EU countries.
Economic indicators are quick-read summaries of the latest data focusing on different aspects of the UK economy. The full suite of indicators can be found on the main Economic Indicators page.
Inflation in different countries can be compared using the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) or the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) as it is known in the UK.
UK inflation was 2.8% in the year to April, down from 3.3% in the year to March. UK inflation was 3.5% in the year to April 2025.
EU inflation was 3.2% in the year to April, up from 2.8% in the year to March. In the year to April 2025, EU inflation was 2.4%.
Inflation in the Eurozone (the EU member states that use the euro as their currency) is provisionally estimated as 3.2% in the year to May, up from 3.0% in the year to April. Eurozone inflation was 1.9% in the year to May 2025.
In Germany, inflation is provisionally estimated as 2.7% in the year to May, down from 2.9% in the year to April.
In France, inflation is provisionally estimated as 2.8% in the year to May, up from 2.5% in the year to April.
Romania had the highest inflation rate in the EU in the year to April (9.5%). Sweden had the lowest inflation rate (0.5%).
