Latest GDP dataIn Q1 2026, UK GDP grew by 0.6% compared with the previous quarter (Q4 2025). Eurozone GDP increased by 0.1%, with Germany growing by 0.3% and France recording no growth. US GDP growth was 0.5%.

GDP growth in recent yearsUK GDP in Q1 2026 was 6.0% above its pre-pandemic level of Q4 2019. This compares with Eurozone GDP being 7.0% higher, with GDP in Germany up by 0.8% (the lowest in the G7). The US has the highest GDP growth among G7 economies since just before the pandemic, totalling 15.2% from Q4 2019 to Q1 2026.

IMF and OECD forecastsOn 14 April 2026, the IMF published new forecasts for the world economy. The IMF forecast slower growth and higher inflation as a result of the conflict in the Middle East and the disruption to energy supply. The OECD lowered its forecast for UK GDP growth in 2026 from 1.3% to 0.8%. It also forecast UK inflation to average 3.2% in 2026.

On 26 March 2026, the OECD published new forecasts for the world economy. The OECD raised its forecast for inflation around the world due to the conlict in the Middle East and the disruption to energy supply. The OECD lowered its forecast for UK GDP growth in 2026 from 1.2% to 0.7%. It also raised its forecast for UK inflation in 2026 from 2.5% to 4.0%.
