Increase pay for NHS healthcare workers and recognise their work (300073)

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued a response on 4 May 2020, which included noting that “the Department of Health and Social Care has reached multi-year pay and contract reform agreements with trade unions across the NHS workforce.” It also said the forthcoming NHS People Plan “will set out the support and recognition that all NHS staff can expect to receive from their employer”.

Give non-British citizens who are NHS workers automatic citizenship (305129)

The Home Office response on 6 May 2020 included a statement that “we are not currently looking at amending the citizenship requirements or introducing an automatic grant of it” and said it had “made provision for doctors, nurses and paramedics working for the NHS to automatically have their visas extended by one year if it is due to expire before 1 October 2020”.

Reduce or scrap the immigration health surcharge for overseas NHS staff (301948)

The Home Office response on 29 May 2020 included a statement that “the Prime Minister has asked the Home Secretary and the Department of Health and Social Care to work together to exempt NHS and care staff from the immigration health surcharge. This means the Immigration Health Surcharge will not be increased for this group of workers but will instead be removed”.

The DHSC’s response on 20 April 2020 included a commitment to “bring forward a plan for social care this year” and was currently considering how to take forward cross-party talks on the issue.
