In some unparished towns and cities, where a previous local authority has been abolished, charter trustees have been established to maintain the town or city charter. Charter trustees currently exist in the following 15 locations:
- Bath
- Carlisle
- Durham
- Chester
- Cleethorpes
- East Retford
- Ellesmere Port
- Grimsby
- High Wycombe
- Mansfield
- Margate
- Scunthorpe
- Worksop
The boundaries of the charter trustees for Chester and Durham cover some neighbouring parish council and unparished areas. They cover the boundaries of the former Chester and Durham city councils, which were abolished in the late 2000s.
