Background
Sexual abuse of a child causes lifelong trauma. Victims often suffer for life, while offenders can receive shorter sentences and be released back into society. There is strong public concern that repeat offenders are reoffending after release. Sentencing must reflect the severity of these crimes and prioritise public safety.
