Background
Families bereaved by homicide face profound trauma but must often navigate complex systems alone. Police FLOs and charities offer support, but cannot act as legally empowered proxies. We feel that grieving families are too often forced to act as legal experts— battling the IOPC for transparency and managing invasive CICA paperwork. We believe that grief should not be compounded by administrative exhaustion. We want this new statutory right to be known as James’s Law – to provide an independent advocate to ensure no family fights these bureaucratic systems alone.
