Background
The government's proposed immigration rule changes must include grandfathering protections for families—specifically, the partners and parents of British citizens—who are already on the 10-year route to settlement. Applying new rules retrospectively to these families undermines their fundamental right to family life, breaches the legitimate expectation they were given, and causes severe disruption to British citizen children and their family units.
