Background
Recent protests in Iran have been met with mass arrests, arbitrary detention, and violent suppression. Many face torture, unfair trials, and possible execution without urgent action. The UK has obligations under UN Charter Arts 1 & 55, Genocide Convention Art I, ICCPR Arts 2, 6 & 21, and UK Human Rights Sanctions Regulations. Immediate measures are needed to uphold human rights, protect vulnerable civilians, prevent further widespread civilian deaths and suffering, and support basic freedoms.
