Create a version of the European Accessibility Act (EAA)
We urge the UK Government to create a version of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). We think this would set clear, enforceable digital accessibility standards, ensuring disabled people can access essential services online. We think stronger enforcement and penalties would drive compliance.

Background
Currently, we think private sector digital accessibility is poorly enforced under the Equality Act 2010, leaving many disabled people unable to access banking, e-commerce, and essential online services. The EAA ensures web content accessibility guidance compliance, proactive enforcement, and real penalties for non-compliance. Without action, we think the UK risks falling behind global standards, disadvantaging disabled users and businesses trading in the EU. We think a UK EAA would promote inclusivity and legal clarity.
