Commission a strategic review into social work pay, wellbeing and regulation.
We call for an independent review of the social work sector to address stagnant pay, outdated mileage rates, and excessive hours. Critically, the review must investigate Social Work England’s fitness to practise timeframes, which leave professionals unable to work for years pending completion.

Background
The profession is in crisis. 76% of social workers report a mental health crisis, and 52% intend to leave within 18 months. Average weekly hours exceed contracts by 11 hours, while HMRC mileage rates haven't changed in 15 years. Furthermore, Social Work England's investigation backlog, with case examiner stages averaging 97 weeks, is forcing skilled workers out of the workforce during a staffing shortage. The Government must intervene to ensure the safety of the workforce and the public.
