Ban pet-owner discrimination during the tenancy application process
Make it unlawful for landlords and letting agents to discriminate against prospective tenants with pets during the rental application and screening process. The Renters’ Rights Act must protect applicants, not just existing tenants.

Background
We believe the Renters’ Rights Act protects existing tenants but fails prospective ones. We are concerned that landlords and agents routinely use pre-viewing questionnaires to screen out applicants who disclose they have a pet. Because some protections only apply after signing a contract, we feel responsible pet owners are systematically excluded before they can even view a property. We want robust measures during the application phase to ensure everyone has equal access to housing.
