The Government does not mandate that schools have uniforms. It is for the governing board of a school to decide whether there should be a school uniform policy and, if so, what that should be. You may wish to sign this petition: "Ban school uniforms" https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/742463

Background
Usually, the school uniforms can be expensive so some students might not be able to afford it and they're also quite uncomfortable. Also, schools give detentions for incorrect school uniform which can be harsh (for example, I've seen someone get an hour long detention just for their skirt being 1 or 2 centimetres above the knee).
