Alcohol fraud
A consultation on legislative measures to tackle existing and emerging threats to the UK alcohol duty regime.
Alcohol duty fraud is damaging the legitimate UK alcohol industry, resulting in losses of up to £1.2 billion a year to the UK taxpayer. The Government announced in Budget 2011 that it would explore potential legislative measures to tackle existing and emerging threats to alcohol duty receipts.
This consultation outlines legislative options intended to reduce the scale of alcohol fraud. The Government is seeking comments from businesses and individuals on the potential impacts and benefits of these options for the legitimate alcohol trade, to influence the design of the policy and help inform decisions on the introduction of new legislation.
