Strengthening seafarer protections on UK-France routes
Seeks view on proposals for regulation of payment and safe working practices for seafarers in and beyond UK waters.
Detail
Sets out proposals for new regulations under the Seafarers’ (Wages and Working Conditions) Act to strengthen pay and safe working protections on international services calling at UK ports.
The proposals focus initially on routes between the UK and France and the Channel Islands, where agreement has been reached, and would apply to services calling at UK ports frequently. They include:
- requirements on pay across the whole journey
- limits on periods of service and rest
- new declaration and enforcement arrangements
We’re seeking views on:
- the scope of the measures
- how they should operate in practice
- how compliance should be monitored and enforced
