M6 junction 16 to 19: introducing variable speed limits

Proposals to improve the M6 by making it a smart motorway between junctions 16 and 19. Smart motorways relieve congestion by using the hard shoulder as a running lane and using technology to vary the speed limit at busy times.

Highways England has drafted regulations regarding implementation of these variable speed limits and is keen to hear how these proposals could affect you, your organisation or those you represent.
