Statutory Main Rivers proposal for factual change: West Midlands, Cumbria and Lancashire
The Environment Agency proposes to change the existing Statutory Main river map across the Environment Agency's West Midlands, Cumbria and Lancashire areas
The Environment Agency consults the public about proposals to change whether a river or stream is designated as a main river. The Environment Agency carries out maintenance, improvement or construction work on main rivers to manage flood risk. Main rivers are usually larger rivers and streams.
Details of proposed changeThe Environment Agency proposes to change the existing Statutory Main River map across the Environment Agency’s West Midlands, and Cumbria and Lancashire areas.
It proposes these changes as a ‘determination’ under section section 193C(1) of the Water Resources Act 1991. A determination is a formal decision to change the Main River map.
The proposed changes will correct known inaccuracies from the Main River map, so that the map will show the correct location of the watercourse. They do not change who has power to carry out flood risk management work on the watercourse.
How to view the proposed changesYou can see the proposed change on the Main River map.
The proposed change is shown as a ‘Consultation’ red line on the map.
