Future of lane rental schemes for roadworks
Seeks views on whether to keep existing roadwork lane rental schemes and allow other authorities to adopt their own schemes.

Detail
Consultation seeking views on the future of lane rental schemes.
Lane rental involves charging organisations carrying out road works for the time their works occupy certain parts of the highway. The schemes are focused on the busiest streets at the busiest times.
The consultation asks if:
- the 2 pioneer lane rental schemes, in operation in London and Kent, should continue
- other local authorities to be allowed introduce lane rental schemes
In order to allow sufficient time to agree and implement a longer term solution we are consulting on removing the ‘sunset clause’ which will allow lane rental schemes to continue beyond March 2019.
