Proposal to change the allocations process in the longer semi-trailer trial
Seeking views on a proposal to make the allocation process in the trial more effective and increase the uptake of the remaining allocation.
The trial of longer semi-trailers has now been running since January 2012. Given the current rate of take-up of both lengths of longer semi-trailer (14.6 metres and 15.65 metres), it is highly unlikely that the total target allocation of 1800 longer semi-trailers made available to operators in the trial will be reached by the cut-off date of 31 December 2013.
In order to address this and other issues and help meet demand from operators who do not have enough, or any allocation, of longer semi-trailers, the department believes that it would be better to change the allocation process now rather than wait until the current allocations expire in December.
This consultation therefore seeks views on a proposal to help make the allocation process more effective and to increase the uptake of the remaining allocation.
