Testing if vehicles are roadworthy
Proposal to make legislative changes to how vehicles are tested for roadworthiness, and to introduce testing for fast tractors.
Last fetched 03 May 2026 · gov.uk
Detail
The EU Directive on roadworthiness testing includes the requirement for ‘fast tractors’ used for commercial haulage to be subject to roadworthiness testing. We are seeking views on how to implement a testing regime for these vehicles.
Also, we are consulting on a number of legislative changes to roadworthiness testing, arising from the Directive. These changes apply to all classes of vehicle.
