Non-economic regulators: duty to have regard to growth

Seeks views on a new growth duty for non-economic regulators.

Last fetched 03 May 2026 · gov.uk
Detail

There are 50 non-economic regulators with a combined budget of approximately £4 billion and 55,000 employees. There is a strong body of evidence that suggests that they are not consistently achieving both protection and prosperity in the way they operate. This consultation concerns the introduction of a statutory duty for them to have regard to growth. It sets out how such a duty might be applied, and seeks views on how it could work.
