Seeks views on changes to the 2011 motor regulations and the way that the owner might be determined if a vehicle is impounded.

Detail

The Department for Transport is seeking views on proposed amendments to the 2011 Motor Vehicle Regulations.

The changes are required to meet the concerns of the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments (JCSI). Those concerns are that, where more than 1 party claims ownership of an impounded vehicle, it’s custodian is currently delegated with power to determine the owner.

The amendments solely address JCSI concerns. They would not alter enforcement practice as they only remove a power which was not there in the first place.
