Investigation into Google’s ‘Privacy Sandbox’ browser changes
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) consulted on a proposal to release the Commitments previously accepted by the CMA from Google in relation to Google’s Privacy Sandbox.
Last fetched 03 May 2026 · gov.uk
Detail
The CMA had competition concerns regarding Google’s Privacy Sandbox proposals and previously accepted Commitments offered by Google to address these. Google has since announced that it no longer plans to block third-party cookies in general browsing in Chrome, or prompt users to decide if they want to do this.
The CMA now believes the Commitments are no longer necessary and so is consulting before taking a decision on whether to release them.
