Electrically assisted pedal cycles: changes to regulations
Seeks comments on proposed amendments to regulations which affect the classification of certain electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPC).
This consultation seeks feedback on proposed amendments to the Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycles (EAPC) Regulations 1983 and Pedal Cycles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1983. These regulations define which EAPC are not treated as motor vehicles on Great Britain’s roads and set out technical requirements.
The Department for Transport proposes to remove some restrictions placed on EAPC, by aligning with the lastest European classification and industry standards. The aim of these proposals is to widen the choice of vehicles for manufacturers, retailers and consumers whilst maintaining or improving safety standards.
