A Bill to make provision for the holding of an inquiry into the Iraq war.
This Bill was presented by the Liberal Democrat spokesperson for foreign affairs, and supported by other front bench Liberal Democrats.
Key areas:
It is designed to establish an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the invasion of Iraq in 2003, using powers under the Inquiries Act 2005
The Government would be responsible for appointing a panel of 12 members who would have powers to investigate
The inquiry would cover the origins, inception, legality and conduct of the hostilities and would make its findings public. Since 2003, there have been a number of campaigns to establish an independent inquiry.
