Make provision for a railway transport system running from Maidenhead, in the County of Berkshire, and Heathrow Airport, in the London Borough of Hillingdon, through central London to Shenfield, in the County of Essex, and Abbey Wood, in the London Borough of Greenwich; and for connected purposes.
Crossrail is the plan to integrate the mainline railways to the east and west of London through the construction of two tunnels beneath central London from Paddington to Liverpool Street.
The main purpose of the Bill was to secure the powers necessary to build Crossrail. This Bill received Royal Assent in July 2008 and Crossrail is now proceeding. It was a Hybrid Bill, as it contained provisions which had an impact on the interests of particular individuals, as well as the general public.
